Highlights of Kefalonia

Discover with us in a short time the highlights of this unique island!!

Commence a scenic island drive through olive groves, vineyards and thick cypress glades. Passing through the Mount Ainos you will find and discover the famous monastery of St Gerasimos, the patron saint of Kefalonia and marvel the solid silver casket containing his remains. Next to the Monastery you will visit the Robola Winery and gain insight into the production methods of the famous and rare Robola wine made of a local selection of grapes, which comes in red, white and sweet Muscat.

Leaving the winery we will head towards the Drogarati cave that was discovered 300 years ago and opened to the public in 1963.Drogarati Cave is famous for its acoustics where orchestras often hold concerts and opera singers such as Maria Callas sang here. Passing Sami, where Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed, we will end up at the Melissani Lake, an underground lake fed by subterranean channels with water running from the opposite side of the island. Visit the cave, which is partly open to the elements as its ceiling had collapsed, accessing it via a manmade tunnel that leads to the shore of the lake. From there, a small boat rowed by master oarsmen will take you to a tour over the lake. The boat passes through a channel whose walls sprout eccentric-looking stalactites. The ceiling, more than 300 feet above you, combined with the light coming in from the entrance creates a spectacular and eerie effect of dancing colours.

Leaving Melissani we will head to Agia Efimia Village, a quiet little fishing village situated on the east-coast of Kefalonia Island. It is surrounded by mountains from the north, west and south, which form the Pyllaros Valley. Departing from Ag.Efimia and on the way back to the port  the spectacular and breathtaking Myrtos beach is waiting for you to capture for yourselves photos you cannot go home without.
