DESCRIPTION
Depart the capital of Argostoli following the coastal road around the gulf travelling through picturesque traditional villages as we head along the west coast towards Assos Village.
After the 1953 earthquake that devastated majority of the island – Assos still has some excellent albeit ruined examples of Venetian architecture including the fortress that overlooks the natural secluded bay with its small cobbled waterside Paris square. The village is a kaleidoscope of colour from the buildings to the natural foliage & blooms. You will have time to explore the fortress or just sit at one of the waterside tavernas and soak up the atmosphere.
We will then head north to the port of Fiscardo. This cosmopolitan port has become a hot spot for the rich and famous and thrives with the yachting community. Meander along the harbor side and lose yourself on the cobbled back lanes exploring the boutique shops. You will be spoilt for choices of places to eat or drink. For anyone wanting to head away from the bustle take the Venetian Lighthouse walk that leads you along the headland. Continue along the route and discover an example of a Byzantian basilica.
As we depart Fiscado driving back south along the west coastal road through pretty traditional villages heading towards the famous beach of Myrtos. The beach has become the most photograph beach in the world and iconic to the island among other land marks. You will have time not just to take your own postcard worth photos but spend time to immerse yourself in the milky blue warm waters. The beach is a mixture of sand that gradually changes to white chalky pebbles at the waters edges that mix with these unique waters helping with the constant colour changing.
