History, Nature, Culture and Flavours …This tour has all you need to see and taste if you wish to discover the highlights of this region with our local guide
This sightseeing tour follows the scenic Fanari coastal road between Lassi and Argostoli with a photo stop at the Katavothres Water Wheels and the Lighthouse. The tour continues through the resort area of Lassi and the beautiful Livathos villages to the Monastery of St. Andreas. The nickname of the patron saint of the monastery derives from the rare variety of trees found in the area, a cross of apple and pear trees, beneath which, according to tradition, the Icon of the Virgin Mary was found.
Some of the best views of the island and of neighbouring island Zante can be seen from the traditional village of Katsro. The village lies on a hill above the valley of Livathos and leads up to the Venetian fortress of St. George built in the sixteenth century. The area around the Castle is well worth exploring with remains of pre-earthquake village houses and the remains of the medieval church of Evangelistria built in 1420. The remains of the church of St. Theodori are located south west of the castle and this church may well be even older than Evangelistria. Our trip continues to the famous Koutavos Lagoon, which lies at the head of Argostoli Bay and is a nature reserve for wildlife, including the Caretta Turtle and various waterfowl.
Next roam the pedestrian Lithostroto street at the most historical side of this, the Bell Tower square and make your own story of flavors inspired by the traditional kefalonian tsoureki, mandolas, biscuits and many other desserts at the oldest bakery in the town, the homemade ice cream, made by fresh local products, the aroma of the real Greek coffee and the fresh juices in some of the most stylish café in the town. Walk in the pedestrian street and visit the only Catholic Church in the island and stroll around the little shops with handmade art craft and souvenirs.
